Anyone know about macbooks?

I've been thinking about getting a mac-book pro for college,but a few things have deterred me a little. 1: I'm not too into art and creative stuff, so would a mac-book be a waste of money if used for just writing papers and surfing the web? and 2: If i load windows onto it, will the chance of viruses be opened? please let me know if you have the answer.
