Is Call of Duty Black Ops in any way appropriate for my kid?

My son--age 11--is OBSESSED with the idea of getting COD: Black Ops for the PS3. I have been very reluctant to purchase it for him, but many of his same-aged friends have it, so it's hard to tell him he's too young. He did some research online and supposedly one can drastically reduce the swearing and gore. Is this true on the PS3? Just in the way of background he has played MAG, Brink, and Battlefield Bad Company and he seems mature enough to handle these. I am looking for factual info, not a critique of my parenting. I am aware of the rating systems, but he has been playing rated T games for a couple of years and has been doing fine with them. There is a lot of conflicting info out there and I just want to make an informed decision.
